Habakkuk was a great prophet of God whose warnings and prayers are recorded for us in the Book of Habakkuk. He had important messages for this 21st-century world ── particularly the United States of America and our British-descended allies.
The online 1906 Jewish Encyclopedia recorded the following concerning him ──
HABAKKUK (; LXX. Ἀμβακούμ; Vulgate, "Habacuc"):Prophet; author of the eighth in the collection of the twelve minor prophetical books. The etymology of the name of the prophet is not clear. It seems to be a loan-word representing the Assyrian "hambaḳûḳu," a garden-plant (Friedrich Delitzsch, "Prolegomena," p. 84; König, "Historisch-Kritisches Lehrgebäude der Hebräischen Sprache," ii. 1. 473, on the vocalization), and has the appearance of being a writer's pseudonym (F. E. Peiser, "Der Prophet Habakuk," in "Mitteilungen der Vorderasiatischen Gesellschaft," 1903, i. 12). That he was a Levite has been urged on the strength of the postscript to ch. iii. (verse 19, "on my stringed instruments"), which indicates that he owned instruments: only a Levite was authorized to use an instrument to accompany his songs in the Temple. The superscription of the Septuagint apocryphon Βὴλ καὶ Δράκωυ, in the Codex Chisianus, also designates him a Levite. 1
The Prophet Habakkuk likely wrote the book shortly before Babylon’s conquest of Judah, around 605-625 BC. It does have quite a few implications for the time that we are living in today.
Let’s begin in the first chapter of the Book of Habakkuk. Remember that words in italics are typically words that were added by translators to enhance the clarity and readability in the New King James Version, which is as follows ──
“The burden which the prophet Habakkuk saw.
2) O LORD, how long shall I cry, And You will not hear? Even cry out to You, ‘Violence!’ And You will not save. 3) Why do You show me iniquity, And cause me to see trouble? For plundering and violence are before me; There is strife, and contention arises. 4) Therefore the law is powerless, And justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; Therefore perverse judgment proceeds.
5) ‘Look among the nations and watch – Be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days Which you would not believe, though it were told you. 6) For indeed I AM raising up the Chaldeans, a bitter and hasty nation Which marches through the breadth of the earth, To possess dwelling places that are not theirs. 7) They are terrible and dreadful; Their judgment and their dignity proceed from themselves. 8) Their horses also are swifter than leopards, And more fierce than evening wolves. Their chargers charge ahead; Their calvary comes from afar; They fly as the eagle that hastens to eat. 9) ‘They all come for violence; Their faces are set like the east wind. They gather captives like sand. 10) They scoff at kings, And princes are scorned by them. They deride every stronghold, For they heap up earthen mounds and seize it. 11) Then his mind changes, and he transgresses; He commits offense, Ascribing this power to his god’” – Habakkuk 1:11; NKJV.
So, notice friends that the above states that in this end-time, the work that God works will not be believed, even though God reveals it – which He is doing through His servants. While most claim that this was only for the past and mock me for quoting this regarding the soon-coming end-time trauma, they appear to forget that this is in the New Testament. The Apostle Paul, speaking in a synagogue at Antioch to the sons of the family of Abraham, and all who fear God ──
“’ Beware therefore, lest what has been spoken in the prophets come upon you:
41) ‘Behold, you despisers, Marvel and perish! For I work a work in your days, A work which you will by no means believe, Though one were to declare it to you.” – Acts 13:40-41, NKJV.
Continuing with Habakkuk ──
“Are You not from everlasting, O LORD my God, my Holy One? We shall not die. O LORD, You have appointed them for judgment; O Rock, You have marked them for correction. 13) You are purer eyes then to behold evil, And cannot look on wickedness. Why do You look on those who deal treacherously, And hold Your tongue when the wicked devours A person more righteous than he? 14) Why do You make men like fish of the sea, Like creeping things that have no ruler over them?
15) They take up all of them with a hook, They catch them in their net, And gather them in their dragnet. Therefore they rejoice and are glad. 16) Therefore they sacrifice to their net, And burn incense to their dragnet; Because by them their share is sumptuous And their food plentiful. 17) Shall they therefore empty their net, And continue to slay nations without pity?” – Habakkuk 1:12-17; NKJV.
Regarding World War I & II, “If it hadn’t been for the United States of America and the British people, the bad guys would have won those wars!” Indeed, many believe – and I believe it’s factual – that in certain ways the United States of America and her Anglo-allies were “more righteous” than those nations at that time. However, the reality is – the tides are turning for the USA and her Anglo-allies.
“I will stand my watch And set myself on the rampart, And watch to see what He will say to me, And what I will answer when I am corrected. 2) Then the LORD answered me and said: ‘Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. 3) For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.
4) ‘Behold the proud, His [life] is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith’” – Habakkuk 2:1-4; NKJV.
Notice this end-time prophecy is for an appointed time – the time of the end. It is a prophecy for our time – and it will affect the proud. So, indeed, we are trying to make it as plain as possible, so that you may “run” upon reading it.
Sadly, however, the majority of people do not take this seriously enough ── reducing it to mere history ── and this includes the majority of professing Christians ──
“’ Indeed, because he transgresses by wine, He is a proud man, And he does not stay at home. Because he enlarges his desire as Sheol, And he is like death, and cannot be satisfied, He gathers to himself all nations And heaps up for himself all peoples.
6) ‘Will not all these take up a proverb against him, And a taunting riddle against him, and say, ‘Woe to him who increases What is not his──how long? And to him who loads himself with many pledges’?
7) Will not your creditors rise up suddenly? Will they not awaken who oppress you? And you will become their booty.
8) Because you have plundered many nations, And the remnant of the people shall plunder you, BECAUSE OF MEN’S BLOOD And THE VIOLENCE OF THE LAND AND THE CITY, And of all who dwell in it.’” – Habakkuk 2:5-8.
Truly, with a massive national debt of some $38.6 trillion dollars, and no real plan to bring this debt down ── except maybe by tariffs, the United States of America has increased our pledges greater than any other nation in the history of nations. And as per capita, the U.S. debt is a whopping $75.857.00! 2
The above prophecy here in the Book of Habakkuk will be fulfilled toward the end of this present evil age ── “ … The message was true, but the appointed time was long; … 14) ‘Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision refers to many days yet to come.’” – Daniel 10:1, 14. The Hebrew word “appointed” is ṣābā’, which is more akin to fight, war, army. 3 To note: The modern nation of Israel does not have a direct debt to other countries, as it is a sovereign nation with its own currency and economy. Surely, this two-fold prophecy will be a nation or a group of nations with some prominence at “the appointed time” “in the latter days.” The “violence of the land” could indeed be fighting, war, militaries. Yes, in this modern 21st century, the USA along with the UK has been giving SHAMEFUL COUNSEL (as examples) when it comes to the LGBTQ+ “lifestyle,” abortion, and even including immigration!
Now, the majority of biblical scholars claim that what the Prophet Habakkuk was speaking about here in chapter 2 was really a prophecy concerning the Babylonian “beast” ── or rather, ancient Chaldea. But this is not true because of several reasons. 1) The prophecy will tarry (it takes a while to fulfill) showing that this cannot be a prophecy for the “end-time Babylonian ‘beast’” as many assert, because the end-time beast power will not be accumulating massive debt before it takes control. 2) The USA has been accumulating debt since 1776! 3) Also, the LORD, in chapter 1, says that He will raise up the Chaldeans as the people who will implement punishment upon the descendants of the children of Israel──and it does not state that they will be destroyed by the descendants of the children of Israel.
A major contributing factor in the subjugation of the United States of America per Habakkuk 2 will be because of massive debt.
Notice from a commentary concerning the Book of Habakkuk The Dead Sea Scrolls (which, according to most, estimate the date from the 3rd century B.C. to the 1st century A.D.) ──
“(2:1-2). … This refers to … then God told Habakkuk to write down what is going to happen to the generation to come; but when that period would be complete He did not make known to him. When it says, ‘so that with ease someone can read it,’ this refers to the Teacher of Righteousness to whom God made known all the mysterious revelations of his servants the prophets.“For a prophecy testifies of a specific period; it speaks of that time and does not deceive” (2:3a).This means that the Last Days will be long, much longer than the prophets had said; for God’s revelations are truly mysterious.Again, as in the comment to Habakkuk 1:12-13, the writer exhorts the righteous to remain faithful and patient throughout the time of suffering.” 4
Certainly, while ancient scrolls like the Dead Sea Scrolls are not part of the biblical cannon ── which is inspired by our living God, the Dea Sea Scrolls was a major significant discovery to those who do properly understand the Hebrew language that was being spoken nearly 2000 years ago, who had known that the Prophet Habakkuk’s words had not been fulfilled and were indeed for “the latter days” and for the time of the Day of the Lord.
The US debt nearly doubled during Barack Obama’s presidency. As of April 2024, Resident Joe Biden had increased the national debt by some $6.17 trillion. During President Donald Trump’s presidency, the debt has increased by $8.18 trillion ── but experts are saying that a large portion of this was due to the global coronavirus pandemic. The U.S. is currently above its debt limit of $31.4 trillion, which means that when the current suspension of the limit expired in 2025, Congress will either need to again increase the limit or suspend it. 5
So, from Doug Melville of Forbes, “With the U.S. Debt A Staggering $38 Trillion Dollars, Who Exactly Do We Owe?” ──
- Japan – $1.13 Trillion Owed.
- The United Kingdom – $807 Billion Owed.
- China – $750 Billion Owed. 6
Sadly, the United States of America has been setting herself up for the grave penalties that are prophesied by the Prophet Habakkuk for this soon-coming end-time. Massive debt ── and to be absolutely fair to our beloved president, “Where are the spending cuts?” ──
President Donald J. Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill is just one mechanism the Trump Administration is using to cut spending. … The One Big Beautiful Bill includes $1.7 trillion in mandatory savings. … The One Big Beautiful Bill makes permanent fixes to Medicaid and food stamps. … President Trump’s budget proposal makes the most substantial spending cuts in a generation. 7
Now, I personally ask the question: What is going to happen to the United States of America when another Democrat gets back into the White House? Have you seen Democrats lately? They are completely unhinged!
We should also consider that a reasonable estimate suggests that well over 40 countries, and potentially upwards of 60 or more, depend on the US military to some degree for their security. Hence, Habakkuk 2 does certainly include the downfall of our British-descended allies.
And sadly, again, a great many will mock us for teaching that Habakkuk here is speaking of a soon-coming end-time trauma.
The massive national debt of the U.S. cannot continue indefinitely ── there will be a major price to pay ── and the LORD God’s will be done! □
