MEMORIAL DAY ~ 2025

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington County, Virginia, United States

TODAY is MEMORIAL DAY in the United States of America. Originally known as Decoration Day, it started just after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War. But by the 20th century, Memorial Day was extended to honor all Americans who have died in foreign wars in their military service for this greatest of nations.

On Memorial Day, we honor those who died in the service of our country. Let us do everything we can as a people and a nation to stop war and all its brutality.

A peaceful future without war and all its awfulness is the best way to honor our troops, even as we cherish the memory of the heroes who gave their all.

Absolutely beautiful words, yet ── we know that true lasting peace will not come until our Lord Jesus Christ returns! The Prince of Peace!

War No More: Veterans Reflect on the Meaning of Memorial Day

This Memorial Day, let us honor the memory of the dead by pledging to protect our precious planet, its people, and its environment. …

We remember the words of President Dwight Eisenhower, who during World War II, was the supreme commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe:

“War is a grim, cruel business, a business justified only as a means of sustaining the forces of good against those of evil.” He also famously stated, “I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity.”

Indeed, there is an evil that is against the good.

Here is something that Theophilus of Antioch (who apparently was a member of the Church of God) that was written approximately A.D. 180 ──
Consider, therefore, whether those who teach such things can possibly live indifferently, and be commingled in unlawful intercourse, or, most impious of all, eat human flesh, especially when we are forbidden so much as to witness shows of gladiators, lest we become partakers and abettors of murders. But neither may we see the other spectacles, lest our eyes and ears be defiled, participating in the utterances there sung. 1
True Christians are not to watch or participate in violent sports, such as gladiators, MMA, American Football, Muay Thai, etc., that are so very popular in this present evil age.

As far as war ── it will be finally eliminated in the LORD God’s final phase of the glorious kingdom of God!

Notice His living word ──

“The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

2) Now IT SHALL COME TO PASS IN THE LATTER DAYS That the mountain of the LORD’s house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And ALL NATIONS shall flow to it. 3) Many people shall come and say, ‘Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths.’

For out of Zion shall go forth the Law, And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 4) He shall judge between nations, And rebuke many people; THEY SHALL BEAT THEIR SWORDS INTO PLOWSHARES, AND THEIR SPEARS INTO PRUNING HOOKS; NATION SHALL NOT LIFT UP SWORD AGAINST NATION, NEITHER SHALL THEY LEARN WAR ANYMORE.” – Isaiah 2:1-4.

“Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea [speaking of the Mediterranean Sea]. 2) Then I, John, saw the holy city New Jerusalem, coming down out of [the atmosphere] from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3) And I heard a loud voice from [the atmosphere] saying, ‘Behold, the tabernacle of God [God the Father] is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4) And God [God the Father] will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death [the second death, eternal death], nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.’” – Revelation 21:1-4.

So, as we think about and give honor to our soldiers who have died in foreign wars today, we can look forward to a most glorious time when there will be no more wars, tears of sorrow, pain, grief ── the former things would have passed away!

GLORY, GLORY, GLORY.

‘You are righteous, O Lord, The One who is and who was and who is to be, Because You have judged these things.’ Amen. □
